SekEpoxy resin is a versatile material and can be used for a wide variety of projects. However, it does not bond when in contact with silicone. This effect makes silicone an ideal material for mold making .
All you need is duplicating or molding silicone , your desired model or object, building blocks or walls, lubricant ( click here for our mold release spray ), mixing cup, stirring rod and disposable gloves.
First, you build the outer form. Use the building blocks or half blocks and walls and pay attention to the dimensions of the object. Also consider whether the form may have to consist of several parts . Leave enough space in every direction so that your form has enough stability later on.
The lubricant is then applied generously to the walls and floor. This step will make it easier to remove the mold later. Now you can mix the silicone according to the instructions on the packaging and carefully pour it over the placed model, making sure that it reaches all corners. Light tapping movements help to remove any air bubbles. Also make sure that you will need an "entrance" for pouring the epoxy resin later. If the model has a flat side, this can be placed on the floor.
If the object to be cast is very delicate, it makes sense to apply a layer of silicone over the model beforehand (apply with a brush) to avoid air pockets on detailed features.
Then allow the silicone to harden completely according to the instructions before removing the building blocks or walls and carefully pulling the silicone mold off the model. Clean the mold thoroughly and apply lubricant again to make it easy to remove the epoxy resin later. Once the object is inside the silicone mold, the mold can be split with a scalpel.
For the actual casting, mix the epoxy resin according to the instructions and carefully pour it into the prepared silicone mold. Once the resin has hardened, you can remove your finished project from the mold.
A few tips: Make sure there are no air bubbles trapped in the silicone mold and experiment with different shapes and models to create unique designs. Depending on the project, you can add pigments or dyes to the epoxy resin to create colorful effects.
