epoxy resin floor coating

Epoxy resin floor Durable, seamless & stylish!

An epoxy resin floor coating is an ideal protective coating for floors and has clear advantages: stable , abrasion-resistant, dust- and wear-free, seamless, easy to clean, waterproof and oil-resistant . In addition, an epoxy floor can also be combined with color pigments and 3D effects and can therefore also have a very decorative effect. Possible uses are:

Workshop floors , balconies, garage floors , warehouses, basement floors, production halls, industrial halls and clean rooms. Due to their great properties, epoxy resin floors are not only suitable for commercial use, but can also be used wonderfully in private homes.

This is how impressive your epoxy resin floor can look!

An epoxy resin floor coating is ideal for garages, bathrooms or living rooms. It creates a durable, easy-care surface with an elegant look.

How do I go about coating a floor?

Required materials

Required materials and tools

Epoxy resin and accessories:

  • Dein-Epoxidharz: Highly transparent, UV-stable and resistant epoxy resin -> Universal epoxy resin E45
  • Pigments or dyes for individual design (e.g. patterns) or sprinkling chips for slip resistance
  • mixing cup and stirring rod

Additional tools:

  • scale (for precise weighing of resin and hardener)
  • nail roller (for venting air bubbles)
  • if necessary, nail shoes (for larger areas)
  • gloves and respirator
  • vacuum cleaners, cleaning products
  • adhesive tape, masking film

Step 1

preparation of the substrate

Thorough preparation of the substrate is essential for the durability and appearance of the epoxy resin floor coating.

The floor must be clean, dry, free of grease and stable . Start by removing dust, dirt and old coatings. Loose or cracked areas should be repaired and uneven areas should be smoothed out by sanding or filling. For highly absorbent or porous floors such as concrete, a primer is required to ensure even adhesion and prevent blistering. Simply use our universal epoxy resin and apply it evenly with a roller. The primer should dry completely before the next step.

Step 2

Mixing the epoxy resin

The correct mixing ratio of resin and hardener is crucial for optimal curing. Weigh the components precisely and use a clean mixing bucket. Mix the epoxy resin slowly and thoroughly for at least 5-6 minutes to obtain a homogeneous mass and minimize air bubbles. For larger areas, it is recommended that after the first mixing, the resin is poured into a second clean container and mixed again - this ensures that no unmixed residue remains on the edges of the bucket. Depending on the desired effect, color pigments or metallic effects can be added in this step.

Important: If you want to coat larger areas, you should not mix more than 20kg of epoxy resin at once. This will ensure that the epoxy resin does not start to harden in the mixing bucket. The more mass you mix, the faster the exothermic reaction will begin.

Step 3

Applying the epoxy resin layer

Pour the mixed epoxy resin directly onto the floor and spread it evenly with a roller or squeegee to the desired thickness. To obtain a smooth surface, a de-airing roller (nail roller) should be used to remove trapped air bubbles. Work quickly as the resin will begin to set after a certain amount of time. If color samples are desired, these should be poured wet on wet. For an additional protective or sealing layer, another layer can be applied after curing.

Occupational safety is important!

Epoxy resin is and remains a hazardous substance. Therefore, think about your health and wear gloves and a respirator to prevent skin contact and inhalation of fumes.
